open regedit find
November 29, 2004 08:45AM
Hi guys

i am new to StrokeIt but already addicted. I have learned a lot from this forum so thanks, but i have a problem now.

I am trying to make an action to launch Regedit and open the "find" command in regedit

I have tried [WIN_DOWN][WIN_UP]Rregedit[RETURN][ALT_DOWN][ALT_UP]EF

Everything goes fine until the [ALT] bits. The regedit program is launched but the regedit windows has lost focus so the ALT command doesn't work.

Obviously, replacing [ALT_UP][ALT_DOWN]EF by [F3] doesnt not work either for the same reasons.

I have tried [ALT_DOWN]E[ALT_UP]F, doesnt work neither

I have tried to asociate 2 commands to the same action:
command 1: run regedit prog
command 2: [F3]
this open a search folder windows (since the F3 command is executed before the regedit starts).

So here i am, wandering why why why. I know once regedit is opened it is not a big job to press F3 but it is more for the challenge that i want to do this now!! ;)

any solutions?

Many thanks in advance.

a small reply.
Strokeit opens progs in background by default.so just add a command before F3:
window - Activate window and put the class of regedit it inthe class box
Done!!!

Your best bet for doing something like this would be:

1) Use the "Run program" command to launch regedit.exe
2) Use the "Activate Window" command with the "Wait for window to exist" option to set focus on the Regedit window after it has been created.
3) Use the "Send keys" command to send whatever keystrokes you want to the window.

Yes you are right Jeff. Launching regedit.exe is much better

thanks both of you!
