Google text search
April 07, 2003 04:00PM
Some where I saw a key strokes script that basically put's a selected text into a google search for IE6. Well, I tested it and works fine. Actually i use MyIE2 browser (which I strongly recommend) which transforms IE in a supperb browser.
If you're using MyIE2, the following script put the search in a new window, so you don't loose the original page.

[CTRL_DOWN]c[CTRL_UP][CTRL_DOWN][SHIFT_DOWN]h[CTRL_UP][SHIFT_UP][ALT_DOWN]d[ALT_UP][url=http://www.google.com/search?q=[CTRL_DOWN]v[CTRL_UP][ENTER]]http://www.google.com/search?q=[CTRL_DOWN]v[CTRL_UP][ENTER][/url]

Remember that this will work only if you have MyIE2. If you don´t, u'll need to erase: [CTRL_DOWN][SHIFT_DOWN]h[CTRL_UP][SHIFT_UP], and the search will take place in the same window where u selected the text to search.

Another advice I'd like to add: Ctrl + H is used to open a new Home window, so set your Home to "about:blank" to speed things up.

Can't you just select text and drag it in MyIE2? In GoSuRF it searches Google with the selected text automatically then, no gestures needed.

For IE I recommend the following:

[CTRL_DOWN]c[CTRL_UP][CTRL_DOWN]n[CTRL_UP][ALT_DOWN][HOME][ALT_UP][ALT_DOWN]d[ALT_UP][url=http://www.google.com/search?q=[CTRL_DOWN]v[CTRL_UP][ENTER]]http://www.google.com/search?q=[CTRL_DOWN]v[CTRL_UP][ENTER][/url]

Remove [ALT_DOWN][HOME][ALT_UP] when you did not set your homepage to "about:blank".

I personally set the action to start when the gesture is "?".

I'am using MyIE2 too (and i enjoy it) but i wanted to start a search in google from any application (underline a word in Visual, open a new Window, but not in a new MyIE2, and start the search for example).
Here is what i've done, it's working for me and i hope that'll help :

You have to create 5 commands :
- command 1 : Keys- Hotkeys > CTRL + C
- command 2 : Run - Run programm > select the .exe file for MyIE2 with arguments : about:blank
- command 3 : Windows - Activate Window > Class : IEFrame
- command 5 : Utilities - Delay > 500 ms should work
- command 5 : [ALT_DOWN]d[ALT_UP][url=http://www.google.com/search?q=[CTRL_DOWN]v[CTRL_UP][ENTER]]http://www.google.com/search?q=[CTRL_DOWN]v[CTRL_UP][ENTER][/url]

This is assuming MyIE2 is set as the default browser.
This should also work for IE.
I had to add the delay. Without it just load the blank screen (i think it lets the browser actually loads the page, and then it can copies).

Erratum : on slow system, you have to make sure IE is launched before activating the windows.
Just add a command 2bis : Utilities - Delay > 500 ms :)
