StrokeIt
Please make Strokeit for LinuxPosted by Amitabh
Hello Amitabh,
StrokeIt is to close to windows use other software instead and the developer don't plan to make a Linux version. with best regards Leo http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/forum/read.php?8,5074,5074#msg-5074 visit http://strokeit.tk :) Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/14/2007 03:07AM by Leo.
Yes, but the actual gesture recognition of that program doesn't compare to StrokeIt: No learning at all, and all gestures must consist of huge straight lines. Basically like all other gesture recognition apps with the exception of StrokeIt :(
I bet StrokeIt's recognition code would be used by KHotkeys in no time if it was available. Somehow it's hard to imagine the developers are still earning money with this, so I really wonder what's standing in the way of an open-sourcing...
PLEASE include Linux in this plan....
Think about it hard -- Wonderful things happen in the Linux community. It would be an AMAZING contribution to make StrokeIt available to non-windows users ... BTW, I just read the post mentioned in a previous comment. I can see how the author would want to make money with this -- it's great stuff. Just do it before someone else does! -Shannon
Funny - I find I am more willing to take software suggestions from StrokeIt users than anyone else; I feel like we understand each other more.
Point being, I will probably try foobar2000 now. Also, someone mentioned in this in the general forums, but I think if Jeff started a paypal donation thing specifically to port strokeit to linux or open up the source code, he might have a bigger response than simple donations alone. The reason donation-ware typically doesn't make much money is the users have nothing to "gain" from it. I know that's cynical, but it's true. If users were to not donate any money, they would still have the program they like so much. But if donating money could result in an open source or linux port, lots of linux users or Windows users wanting to switch to linux would be very interested, and hopefully donate money. I know I personally would throw a couple bucks to that cause, because as someone noted before, the cost savings of linux over the licensing costs of windows alone would offset an amount I would budget towards strokeit. Anyway - I'm not sure if anyone involved with development still reads this, but if they do, I hope they know we still love their program, and that they shouldn't give up just yet on making at least some money from it. Best, Ramon
Try this application: www.inf.ufsc.br/ deters ~ / xgestures
It is an improvement in the implementation of the software xgestures (mouse gestures for x environments), in order to bring it closer to the strokeit ... I am forwarding the changes in the software to the original author, so that the changes can be incorporated in the original software. The software is still in testing ... I need the feedback from users to fix the problems. Sincerely, Lucas

Somehow \down or \custom_down does not seem to be nicely recognized. Now only if you can tweak it to read the strokeit config file :-)
You might also want to check out easystroke [1,2]. It features an easy to use interface (no config files to edit!), a good recognition algorithm that also does not depend on strokes consisting of straight lines and has many advanced options, especially for Tablet PCs. It's being actively developed -- I've just released version 0.2.2.
