Click gestures
January 18, 2007 06:45AM
After over 20 years of mousing, RSI finally caught up with me.
I tried several solutions, including voice command, headmovement, etc.
Finally I find a combination of a graphics tablet with mousegestures very relaxing on my finger/hand/arm muscles.
However, I do run into a couple of "annoyances". First of all, Because using the right mouse button to draw I need to gesture "in the air" (because touching the tablet with the tip of the pen can inadvertently set of a left mouse click). This is not very comfortable and results in many misreadings. So I set the gesture to happen on the left mouse button. This however means I must always wait for the time-out if I want to drag or select things. (temporarily disabling is not a very intuitive and efficient method to prevent this). So it would be nice if you could set the gesture to both left and right mouse button at the same time (for example) This way you can press the button on the pen and draw ON the tablet (and not above it).
Secondly, I am missing something -I think is very important- I can't find any program that does this: A gesture that reads the position it is drawn at and performs a click, double-click or right click AT THAT SPOT. Think of the advantages when you are able to click a hyperlink or icon just by drawing (for example) a checkmark where the bottom corner of this mark touches this icon or hyperlink.

Is something like that possible? I hope so!

You could use my multiactions.exe

or define a other ignore key

This is perhaps a usefull software for you too.

As far as I know it is not possible.
By the way you are not the first who request this :)

Hi Leo,

> As far as I know it is not possible.

A long time ago I did some professional programming myself, granted, I never kept up with the times, so I am unaware of what is or is not possible nowadays. However, as far as I know, simulating a mouseclick is done by sending a mouse event to the active window. Normally this is done at the current X-Y position of the mouse. SO all that is needed is to substitute the current X-Y coordinates of the mouse with the ones that are captured during the gesture (at a defined point). As far as I'm concerned this may imply that the mousepointer actually moves to those coordinates.
Reading the Windows API I can't find any obstruction for doing this. I do realize that it means programming an additional module to a program like strokeit that can distinguish between a "normal" gesture and a "I'm pointing at something" gesture.

Did some more trying and thinking ;-)
Most of my problems I could eliminate if I could find a program that would allow me to switch the mousebuttons (left, right and middle) via a macro or script.
Does anyone know of such a program, can't find anything usefull so far on internet.
