.9.1 Preview
December 13, 2002 06:22PM
<HTML>Here's a preview of .9.1 for forum members to test out. If it looks good, I'll probably release it early next week. There aren't any big changes, just some bugfixes that should please those affected:

- Fixed: Gestures weren't being saved when shutting down or logging off on some systems
- Fixed: Cleaned up accelerator handling
- Fixed: "Disable Gesture" string was not translateable

You can get it <a href="http://www.tcbmi.com/cgi-bin/download.pl?file=StrokeIt9_1_pre.exe">here</a>. Please post comments and reports to this forum.

Enjoy,

Jeff</HTML>

<HTML>thanks, working fine here.

although after installing the installer showed a msg saying "an outdated string was detected, K-meleon plugin"

everything is working fine though.

i am not sure but i think i experienced the first bug before, i remember a couple of times i would shutdown the laptop then turn it on again later to find all my "Global Actions" have dissapeared.</HTML>

<HTML>That wasn't the installer giving that message. That was StrokeIt itself. I get the same message. :)

<HTML>Yup, it looks like I forgot to add the updated kmeleon string file. You can grab that file <a href="http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/files/English.lng">here</a>, just copy it to INSTALLDIR\Strings\KMeleon, and overwrite the existing file.

Re: .9.1 Preview

<HTML>What do you mean they can't be used? They're probably already assigned to other actions. Keep in mind that with the new gesture aliases, one gesture can have several names. For example, Right-Up, and J are the same gesture, so when one is used the other becomes unavailable.

<HTML>I think [\Up],[\Up-\Down],[\Down-\Up],[Up-Left],[Up-Down-Up]and[Down-Up-Down]should be unique gestures.But on my system(Windows98se),StrokeIt can't recognize them.I drawed [\Up], [Up-Left] and [Up-Down-Up] currently,but StrokeIt recognized them as [Up].I drawed [Down-Up-Down] currently,StrokeIt recognized it as [Down].If I drawed [\Up-\Down]and[\Down-\Up],StrokeIt will say"Unrecognized Gestures".I tryed to train StrokeIt to recognize them,but no use.Are these bugs?</HTML>

Re: .9.1 Preview

<HTML>Pooyoon,

I don't think they're bugs, I think you may not be drawing the gestures correctly, or else something on your system is causing mouse input to be skewed. For example, Down-Up-Down involves drawing a line down, then tracing all the way back to the top of it, and the all the way back to the bottom again, not just drawing a long line down and then a short line up and down.

Let me know if this helps,

Jeff</HTML>

<HTML>Toby,

Try downloading and installing it again. The kmeleon plugin was messed up in the original build.

<HTML>Happy new year to all who read this,

Hi Jeff I think I found a bug :). If you delete all Applications in StrokeIt Command Editor, so that the window is empty and you press the delete button again StrokeIt crashes on my WinXP system.
It crashes also when you import *.sxp files when the command window is empty. I hope you can reproduce this.

<HTML>Hi Jeff,

sadly to say, but now I can't use StrokeIt anymore on WinNT.

StrokeIt instantly crashes when I perform a gesture.

I can't use my right mouse button "my draw button" anymore.

StrokeIt crashes and not only StrokeIt when I perform a gesture on a empty desktop explorer.exe crashes.

Even the taskmanager crash when I use the right mouse button (draw button).

I set the middle button as "draw button" but StrokeIt crashes also.

I don't know what to do.

crash dump from a gesture close a SDI - Windows (alt+f4)
try to close the Strokeit - Command Editor (not empty).

http://strokeit0.tripod.com/bug/crash2.zip

Have no more crashdumps because it's difficult to get the system stable after StrokeIt crashed.

Perhaps you use the windows temp directory to store something.

when i type "echo %temp%" in the MS-Dos prompt stands there %temp% instead of c:\temp.

Sorry not so usefull informations today.

Please keep it up.

Bye the way what about talking to Microsoft to implement your program in Longhorn.... not a joke. MS would like to implement speech recognition as well why not mouse gestures.

<HTML>Leo,

Thanks for the quick reports. I'm going to be away from my computer for the next few days, but I'll try this out on my WinNT test system as soon as I get back. I'm really sorry it's not working at all for you, and I hope you can get back to a stable version :)

Thanks for your help,

<HTML>Hi Jeff

<Does anyone have any final comments on this? I wouldn't mind running this out the door soon, but I would like a little bit more feedback. Anyone still having crash issues?>

of course *g*

Let me start with WinNT

Hi Jeff,

welcome back I hope you had a good time....

Good News first: Your fix was successful.

Bad News:

The bug with the "empty StrokeIt Commander Editor" is not solved.
I mean a empty Command Editor is stupid ok, but I delete everthing just to import my configuration and StrokeIt crashed so I found this bug per accident.

My hint for solution:
Can you make sure that nobody can delete the "global actions group" I think that would help.

http://strokeit0.tripod.com/bug/globalactions.jpg

Ok I don't know whether it's a bug or not but I can't see the English translation in Command Windows- Activate Window.

the english strings are correct in \strokeit\strings\win
.
.
.
# Action
Class:
Caption:
&Match text as pattern.
&Wait for window to exist <---| these two aren't displayed
milliseconds <-------------------|

Have a look on the picture:

http://strokeit0.tripod.com/bug/win.jpg

It is also in the SendMessage and PostMessage window

http://strokeit0.tripod.com/bug/winmsgpostmessage.jpg

It is also in the Multimonitor
http://strokeit0.tripod.com/bug/multimon.jpg

When I select the OSD.
StrokeIt crashes.!!!

I think that has something to do with the order of the plugins I'm not sure
On WinXP no problems with the strings.

I also found when you delete or rename the file:

your installdirectory\Strokeit\Strings\English.lng

StrokeIt crashes on WinNT only. :) I am a bad boy, I'm I.

WinXP and WinNT

StrokeIt Command Editor -> Edit -> Preferences -> General
I check the box "Always prompt to learn unregognized commands"
You see the checkmark. Hit ok
next time when I open the menu it is still unchecked !

WinXP only
On my WinXP I can't select the Window Next Prevous - Command these are
not in the command selection any hints solution ?
I make a complete new installation but I can still not select it.

Bad News end:

I also found a

"although after installing the installer showed a msg saying "an outdated string was detected, K-meleon plugin"

my fix

KMeleon
insert this Line in KMeleon English.lng

#VERSION:1.1

this is not so imported for me..

sorry for not posting this earlier.....

<HTML>Hi Jeff again,

Oh I forgot to mention that the "Backslash bug is still there" on WinNT.

I think that "runs" throw your "strings compiler"
but I don't know really.

Ok testing all escape commands :

Send keystrokes:

\\a BEL alert i.a. akustisches Signal (bell)[ENTER]
\\b BS backspace[ENTER]
\\f FF form feed[ENTER]
\\n NL (LF) newline[ENTER]
\\r CR carriage return[ENTER]
\\t HT horizontal tab (horizontaler) Tabulator[ENTER]
\\v VT vertical tab vertikaler Tabulator[ENTER]
\\ \ backslash[ENTER]
\\' ' single quote[ENTER]
\\" " double quote[ENTER]
\\? ? question mark Fragezeichen ( ANSI-C )[ENTER]

First run

\a BEL alert i.a. akustisches Signal (bell)
\b BS backspace
\f FF form feed
\n NL (LF) newline
\r CR carriage return
\t HT horizontal tab (horizontaler) Tabulator
\v VT vertical tab vertikaler Tabulator
\ backslash
\' ' single quote
\" " double quote
\? ? question mark Fragezeichen ( ANSI-C )

mhmm looks good but I don't understand the backslash line ok
( with open StrokeIt command editor nothing is changed )

Second run with closed command editor

a BEL alert i.a. akustisches Signal (bell)
b BS backspace
f FF form feed

NL (LF) newline
r CR carriage return
HT horizontal tab (horizontaler) Tabulator
v VT vertical tab vertikaler Tabulator
backslash
' ' single quote
" " double quote
? ? question mark Fragezeichen ( ANSI-C )

Hope this one was helpfull

with best regards

Fixed. You can no longer delete the Global Actions.

I think this should be fixed now.

> When I select the OSD.

This should be fixed now, too.

> I also found when you delete or rename the file:

Probably not fixed yet.

> StrokeIt Command Editor -> Edit -> Preferences -> General

Fixed.

> WinXP only

Unfortunately, WinXP handles the taskbar in a very very inconsistent fashion that makes it impossible for me to make these commands work on XP.

> "although after installing the installer showed a msg saying "an outdated
> string was detected, K-meleon plugin"

This has been fixed now.

> Oh I forgot to mention that the "Backslash bug is still there" on WinNT.

This should be fixed now.

Can you confirm that everything I said should be fixed really is fixed on your end?

Thanks,

Jeff

<HTML>Hi Jeff,

Good news first.

1. The bug with the "empty StrokeIt Commander Editor" is solved.

Confirmed

2. the Backslash bug is gone.

>This should be fixed now.

Confirmed

Bad news

1. Now when I select new commad On screen display
strokeit crashes on WinXP and WinNT.
I have a previous command on WinXP that uses OSD
and when I execute I see the OSD.

2.When I use the activate window command StrokeIt crashes on
WinXP and WinNT

3. Now on both Systems the "String behavior" is the same
but is not good the last two lines are lost.

activate window
<img src=http://strokeit0.tripod.com/bug/win.jpg>

Send / Post message
picture only postmessage
<img src=http://strokeit0.tripod.com/bug/winmsgpostmessage.jpg>

By the way the Send message command works I try it with
Winamp.

Multimon next previous
picture on only previous
<img src=http://strokeit0.tripod.com/bug/mm-previousm.jpg>

Utilities - Delay
<img src=http://strokeit0.tripod.com/bug/ut-delay.jpg>

By the way the delay command works.

I think this come from the Windows Next Previous Command...
suggestion from me

I would outsource the windows next - previous command. in an extra plugin. Then I would check when StrokeIt is installed if the OS is WinXP.
When is WinXP then I would not copy the plugin in the install directory.
In the plugin itself I would implement a check if the OS is WinXP when it is
WinXP then a message something like "Sorry you can't use this plugin under WinXP" appear.

instead of the plugin I would implemente the following in WinXP

Please try it out if it works for you Jeff :)
________________________________________________________
Task Next [Up-Right] {
gesture = Up-Right

Neuer Befehl = keys, keys [SHIFT_DOWN]
Neuer Befehl = keys, keys [TAB]

4. I also found when you delete or rename the file:

>Probably not fixed yet.

Definitly not fixed yet :) on WinNT.

5. in yourinstalldirectory\Strokeit\strings\Multimon\ I have a german
string file and this is definitely not from me :). I am sure.
