Can't run Explorer and Browser with Version 0.97 ProPosted by micpfe
Hello to all!
I'm new to the forum but not new to StrokeIt. - I'm using it at home since a long time. Now I've convinced our IT Department at work to purchase some licenses that we can use this great program at work. After downloading and installing the "StrokeIt .9.7 Professional" the prrogram basically works. But I can't run the Windows Explorer. - I've tried the standard path from the installation default. - I've tried the path "%windir%\explorer.exe" (as noted here http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/forum/read.php?2,54768) also "%systemroot%\explorer.exe" and "C:\Windows\explorer.exe" - tried different Arguments Same problem with the Browser... Tested on two different Systems: - Win XP Professional SP 3 - Win 7 Enterprise 32 bit I have also tried to download "StrokeIt .9.7 Business Trial" -> same problem For testing I've installed the "StrokeIt .9.7 Home" - Here it works fine!!! Can somebody help me??? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/25/2011 09:40AM by micpfe.
On Win 7 the UAC is activated.
I've tried also with the Admin Account. But the Explorer or the Browser can't need elevated rights to run. It's even harder to understand why the "Home-Version" runs without problems on the same computers... Is there a Bug in the "Pro-Version"??? Thanks for your help!
There are a few, but this one is not. Though I cannot say for sure for Win 7 Enterprise 32 bit but it certainly works under Win XP Professional SP 3, Win7 Pro 32 bit and Win7 Pro 64 bit.
Admin account was not what I was referring to. Try starting it by RMB on the executable and then "Run as administrator". Jeff tends to disappear for years but I think you should drop a bug report [url=http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/bugs]here[/url].
Now I've tried it with "Run as Administrator" on the Win 7 but there is no difference.
On my XP it isn't working, too. Bug report is made. I've figured out a workaround for the Explorer: Send Keystrokes -> [WIN_DOWN]e[WIN_UP] But I'm not really happy with that. And I see no chance to start the Browser in any way... :-( I have noticed, that StrokeIt is "busy" for a few seconds, when I want to start those programs. The mouse pointer in the tray stays blue and I can't draw other gestures in that time. Any Ideas? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/28/2011 05:58AM by micpfe.
Not really, sorry. It works here and nothing I tried made it stop working. My last resort would be to create a shortcut somewhere that is not in a restricted area (C:\Program Files, C:\Windows, their sub-folders and such) and try to run it indirectly using that shortcut.
Perhaps Leo or Cerberus drops by soon. They have more experience with such issues than I do.
Hi Leo,
sorry for the delay. These are the settings that don't work: Run Explorer [E, MBUTTON] { gesture = E gesture = MBUTTON_DOWN Explorer = exec, run "%systemroot%\\explorer.exe" "" "/e," "" } Run Web Browser [W] { gesture = W Web Browser = exec, browser } And this is my (temporary) workaround: Run Explorer [E, MBUTTON] { gesture = E gesture = MBUTTON_DOWN Explorer = keys, keys "[WIN_DOWN]e[WIN_UP]" } Run Web Browser [W] { gesture = W Web Browser = exec, run "%programfiles%\\IE.bat" "" "" "" }
Hi Leo,
sorry that my response took so long. I have that problem only at work. And there is not much time for "playing around". I don't really understand what you wanted to tell me with that: Leo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > exec, run "%systemroot%\\explorer.exe" "" "" "" > > http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/forum/read.php?2,547 > 04,54711#msg-54711 Starting the explorer.exe without arguments? - No success. I couldn't figure out a helpful information from the link, too. Don't know for sure, but maybe there is some kind of security guideline in our company, that restricts unknown programs to run the explorer.exe and iexplore.exe. Could that be possible? The strange thing is: When I install the home version there, it runs without problems... Do you know of any difference in the "execute plugin" or the way programs get started between home and business versions? Thanks for your help! |
