Creating a new gesture

Shorthand enables the user to add a variety of new gestures, provided that a new gesture is not already defined for an action.

  1. Open the Shorthand Command Editor by selecting Start > All Programs > Shorthand, or by tapping the Shorthand icon  in the System Tray.
  2. In the Edit menu, select Learn gestures.
  3. Click the New Gesture button.
  4. Type a gesture name in the pop-up box and select OK.
  5. Draw the new gesture.
  6. Click the Learn button.

Repeat steps 5 and 6 a few times to help Shorthand learn the slight differences in how your gestures are drawn and to enable greater accuracy in recognizing your new gesture.

For information about pre-defined gestures, see Predefined gestures.

For information about adding a local gesture, see Local gestures.

Some gestures are disabled and are not active in certain applications. For a list of disabled applications in which gestures are not active, see Disabled applications.
