When considering this suggestion, please be mindful of Glen Murphy's " Better default gestures." thread - http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/forum/read.php?f=4&i=301&t=301
Currently, gestures are delimited by one of three possible SETs of events
1) Right Button Down; Right Button Up
2) Left Button Down; Left Button Up
3) Middle Button Down; Middle Button Up
Have you considered unbinding these sets?
Example 1: (Cited for purpose of exposition.)
Gesture begin = Right Button Down
Gesture end = Left Button Down
This would be most practical if you allowed a sequence as the gesture end delimiter. (Or perhaps an option to "eat" button up events that occur with-in xxx microseconds after the gesture end event.)
Example 2: (I'd actually use this.)
Gesture begin = Right Button Down
Gesture end = Right Button Down + Right Button Up
I'm assuming that button presses are less work than mouse movements.
