Gestures not working in unfocused windows (again)
May 13, 2003 04:58PM
Hi,

I read the previous thread in which the problem of gestures being ignored for unfocused windows (windows that don't have the current focus) was said to be fixed in version .9.2. However, I still run into this bug quite frequently with the latest version of StrokeIt (.9.2a). (However, the problem is intermittent; sometimes gestures work on unfocused windows, but not always. I've yet to find a pattern to figure when it works and when it doesn't.)

I'm using Windows 2000 sp3 if this helps.

Could a previous version of StrokeIt (pre lack-of-focus bug) be made available?

Thanks,

Richard
Hi Richard,

Please control your CPU efficiency with samurize (http://www.samurize.com) or winbar (http://www.winbar.nl). Perhaps it doesn't work when it is high but I don't know I haven't this problem.

with best regards

Leo

Richard,

Can you try to find a series of steps for always reproducing this bug? I'm not seeing it, and it's going to be very difficult to fix unless I can reproduce it.

As I said, I have yet to determine a pattern for when the unfocused windows ignore gestures, or come up with a series of steps that cause it to fail every-time. When the gestures don't work, however, repeatedly trying the gestures won't work either (that is, if a gesture is ignored, so with the next ones to the window, until the focus is changed). If an unfocused window ignores a gesture, another unfocused window may still accept gestures. (The ignoring window won't accept gestures until it gets the focus again, after which it can lose focus and have the gestures work.) I'm not sure how helpful this is.

I would appreciate a link to the older version though; before the (partially fixed) focus bug, I never had any problems at all. I haven't noticed any new features in the newer versions, but this bug is quite annoying. [Running Win2k and Internet Explorer, I've run into this bug three times just in the course of writing this message.]

Hi Richard again,

Internet Explorer:
On which sites the bug appear ? ( password protect etc.)
In Internet Explorer only ?
What does the gestures do ? ( max window, copy anything etc.)
If not Internet Explorer only which programs ?

I hope Jeff has no problem with that ... :)
Go to the download section and change the name into

StrokeIt_9_1.exe

but I hope that you still give a report...

Hi Richard again,

ok I found this "close gesture not working with certain websites" thread..

http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/forum/read.php?f=3&i=171&t=167#reply_171

Perhaps this is the problem...

with best regards

Leo

Hi Leo,

I know about the websites for which closing doesn't work (whether the window has focus or not). (I hadn't seen that bug report though; the filter will be useful for my Proxomitron.)

I don't recall if I have the problem on anything other than Internet Explorer, but I can pay attention. The problem seems to be unrelated to which page is currently loaded though, and all gestures are ignored equally.

A program I'm running that might be interacting poorly with StrokeIt (or exposing a bug): AT&T Privacy Bird (adds something to the IE titlebar).

Thanks for the link to the old version.
